Smootv in 4K: exactly what you need
Smootv streams in 4K where the source is available in 4K. To see it at its best you need four things: a 4K TV, a player that can decode 4K (such as a Fire TV Stick 4K, a recent Android TV box or a 4K smart TV), a stable connection of about 50 Mbps, and ideally a network cable instead of WiFi. This guide checks each one and explains the settings that make the difference.
- About 50 Mbps for 4K, 25 Mbps for HD
- A cable beats WiFi
- Test it free for 24 hours
§ 001 — Checklist
The Smootv 4K checklist
For Smootv in 4K you need a 4K TV, a 4K-capable player, about 50 Mbps of stable internet and an HDMI cable that supports 4K. For HD, about 25 Mbps is enough.
| What | Minimum for 4K | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| TV | A 4K (Ultra HD) TV | A Full HD screen cannot show the extra detail |
| Player | Fire TV Stick 4K / 4K Max, a recent Android or Google TV box, Apple TV 4K, or a 4K smart TV app | Older sticks and boxes only decode HD |
| Internet | About 50 Mbps, stable in the evening | 4K uses roughly twice the data of HD |
| Connection | Network cable (preferred) or strong 5 GHz WiFi | WiFi speed drops when the house is busy |
| HDMI | High Speed HDMI cable, plugged into a 4K/HDCP 2.2 port | Some TVs have only one or two 4K-ready ports |
§ 002 — Speed
How much internet speed does Smootv need for 4K?
Plan on about 50 Mbps for one 4K stream and 25 Mbps for HD. What matters most is the speed in the evening, when everyone in the street is online. Run a speed test on the TV or player itself at around 21:00, not on your phone next to the router.
| Household | Smootv in HD | Smootv in 4K |
|---|---|---|
| 1 screen | about 25 Mbps | about 50 Mbps |
| 2 screens at once (Family plan) | about 50 Mbps | about 100 Mbps |
| 3 screens at once | about 75 Mbps | about 150 Mbps |
If several people also stream, game or work on video calls at the same time, add their usage on top.
§ 003 — Cable or WiFi
Cable or WiFi for Smootv in 4K?
A network cable is the most reliable upgrade for 4K. It removes interference from walls, neighbours' networks and microwaves. Most smart TVs and Android boxes have an Ethernet port, and Fire TV Sticks accept an inexpensive Ethernet adapter.
If a cable isn't possible, use the 5 GHz WiFi network, keep the router within one or two rooms, and consider a mesh point near the TV. Powerline adapters help in some homes and not in others; test them during your Smootv trial before you rely on them.
§ 004 — Settings
Settings to check on your TV and player
- Player display resolution: set it to 2160p or Auto (on Fire TV: Settings → Display & Sounds → Display).
- HDMI port: use the port your TV marks as 4K, HDCP 2.2 or ARC, and enable enhanced HDMI or 'UHD Color' for that port in the TV menu.
- Picture mode: choose Standard or Movie; switch off motion smoothing if live sport looks unnatural.
- App quality setting: in HOT IPTV Player or IBO Player, leave the stream on the highest available quality rather than Auto if your connection is stable.
§ 005 — If it stutters
Smootv 4K stutters? Try this in order
- Restart the player and the router, then test again.
- Run a speed test on the TV or player itself; if it shows less than about 50 Mbps in the evening, watch in HD or connect a cable.
- Move the player off WiFi onto a cable or the 5 GHz network.
- Check that the HDMI cable is in a 4K-ready port.
- Send Smootv a short video of the problem on WhatsApp; we check the stream from our side while you watch.
