Smootv on Samsung and LG smart TVs: no box, no stick
Smootv plays directly on most Samsung smart TVs from 2018 onwards and LG smart TVs with webOS 4 or later, with no extra box. You install HOT IPTV Player (or IBO Player as the second choice) from the TV's own app store, add your Smootv login, and you're watching in about five minutes. Here is how it works on each brand, how to check your model, and what to do if the app isn't in your store.

§ 001 — Check your TV
Will Smootv work on my Samsung or LG TV?
Almost certainly, if the TV is from 2018 or later and connects to the internet. Samsung smart TVs run Tizen and LG smart TVs run webOS; both offer HOT IPTV Player and IBO Player in their app stores.

To check your Samsung model year, open Settings → Support → About This TV. On LG, open Settings → All Settings → General → About This TV, which also shows the webOS version.

Open Apps
Press the Home button and choose Apps (Smart Hub).
Search for HOT IPTV Player
Use the magnifying glass, type HOT IPTV and install the app.
Open it and note the code
The app shows a device code or MAC address on screen.
Send the code to Smootv
Send it to us on WhatsApp or Telegram. We link your Smootv login to the TV.
Restart and watch
Close the app and open it again. Live TV, films, series and the programme guide load within a minute.

Smootv on an LG smart TV, step by step
Open the LG Content Store
Press the Home button and open the LG Content Store (sometimes called Apps).
Install HOT IPTV Player
Search for HOT IPTV, install it and open it.
Note the device details
The app shows a device code or MAC address.
Send them to Smootv
We add your Smootv login on our side within a few minutes.
Restart and watch
Reopen the app and your Smootv channels and library appear.
IBO Player is the second choice on both brands and works exactly the same way. Both apps are made by third parties and have their own licence; with a 12-month Smootv plan we activate one of them for you.
§ 004 — Tips
Getting the best Smootv picture on a smart TV
- Use a network cable if you can. Most smart TVs have an Ethernet port, and a cable beats WiFi every evening.
- On WiFi, choose the 5 GHz network and keep the router close to the TV.
- Update the TV software (Settings → Support → Software Update on Samsung; Settings → General → About This TV on LG).
- Switch off picture effects such as motion smoothing if live sport looks unnatural; that is a TV setting, not the stream.
- Restart the TV fully once in a while by unplugging it for 30 seconds; standby is not a real restart.
§ 005 — Older TVs
My TV is too old or the app isn't in the store
On TVs from before 2018, or models whose store doesn't list the app, the easiest route is a streaming stick in the HDMI port. A Fire TV Stick or an Android/Google TV box works with the same Smootv login; see our Smootv on Fire TV Stick guide. You keep your TV, and setup takes the same five minutes.
